Right Charge block is out of order.

Used left charger block with immediate initialization after plugging in.

Happy to have a free charger from Porterville to Paso Robles eased my worries. Thank you Cal trans. (CCS)

Stopped here just in case stations in Buttonwillow had issues since I had not driven this stretch in my ev yet.Station is in good shape, and charging fast! Thank you @Caltrans for providing this service!

Advertised as Level 3 Fast Charger at CalTrans Maintenance Station. One charger was not functional and the other Level 3 operated like a Level 2 Fast Charger providing only 25 miles per hour charging. The number on the charger is also out of service. We had to drive to Buttonwillow to use the ChargePoint station instead.

* Update 05/08/23: Only 2nd stall is working, 1st stall is OFF.
*UPDATE SEP 2022* Both machines working fine, only got 43kW but whatevs- it’s FREE!
*UPDATE FEB 2022* Now 1st stall works but 2nd is broken.
UPDATE 12/10/21: 1st stall is not working (on all cars), possibly needs to/has been restarted. Zero issues with 2nd stall.

FREE EV CHARGING! About 150mi of Range per Hour. Right off the road on Route 41. Picked up In-N-Out drive thru down the street & ate it here while I charged for 30min to 80%. Level3 DC-50kW CCS & ChaDeMo cords. Again, Free! No one was even there, had it all to myself. Works better than any charger I’ve paid for. There’s even more like these conveniently located at the ‘Fwy5S Rest Area El Tejon’, just North of LA.
THIS is how you invest in infrastructure. Thank you Kettleman City & CalTrans. SF to SD is now almost completely FREE. I won’t miss paying $85 in gasoline each way.

5* for CalTrans for doing this. A question guys, how busy does it get? What are the lines like? I’m gonna be heading to The Bay in June for an appointment and I can’t spend hours in line waiting to charge. How was your experience with charging right away or how long did you wait?

It worked, but I feel that all charge station(s) should have a minimum facility for people: No bathroom. The charge speed took me 60 minutes while regular DC charge takes about 40 minutes.
