Huge store with a ton of museum quality displays. They’ve got a great selection of both rough and polished pieces. I could have spent hours (and several hundred dollars) here. Friendly and helpful staff. Can’t wait to come back!

You definitely want to give yourself enough time to look through the museum and the store because it's filled with so many amazing rocks and fossils. The dark room in the museum section is so cool. My parents have purchased quite a few pieces of jewelry from Gaumers, and it's all beautiful. Seeing the store in person was really a treat. The jewelry is beautiful and reasonably priced. The women who worked there were friendly and attentive as well. I will be making it a point to stop in every time I'm in Northern CA. Updated October 2023*- Gaumer's is still just as lovely and has added a new room within the museum area, which is a must-see.

I love this shop. Museum quality displays are everywhere you look. And the folks who work here are invariably courteous and helpful. Gaumer's has what you are looking for - whatever your interest in stones, fossils, minerals, mining, jewelry and more. They also provide repair services, and have a fantastic collection of stones and minerals from around the world if you are looking for something to cut & polish for yourself. There is a book section with trail guides and "how to" books, as well as a small collection of old (some out of print) books and reference materials that you can browse through to find just what you are looking. They have supplies for cutting, polishing, tumbling, assaying and more, and their prices are always reasonable. Some of the rarer stones seem a little pricey until you start comparing... Even if you just want to look around at pretty rocks and fossils you definitely need to add Gaumer's to your itinerary. It has super easy access off and on the freeway, and is a short walk (shorter drive) from restaurants and shops, including a modest sized Tesla Supercharger station. AND... they will be open on select Saturdays for the holiday season! Woohoo! P.S. Don't forget to stop and look at the beautiful petrified wood log in the entry foyer!

As an avid mineral collector, Gaumers is the place to be. Good prices, great selections and incredible customer service! Love these family owned businesses. Bill and the entire staff are always eager to help with whatever you need.

When my dad was a kid he grew up in Red Bluff and played around at the Gaumer's gem shop. He learned a lot there from the family and he brought us up there when we went out to visit his side of our family. The ownere there were very nice and remembered him and were able to catch up. Their rock museum has many awesome educational examples of precious stones and ancient artifacts! They have several examples of Native American arrowheads, petrified wood, many mortars and pestles, as well as a display of old gold-mining equipment. They have a special dark room set up where you can shine different wavelength UV light onto reactive stones and see them glow, as well as a beautiful backlight display of slab agates and other kinds of stones that kids can look into detail in. We came with our younger cousin who seemed to really enjoy looking at all the stones. They also have many examples of precious stones sculptures from many different artistic traditions, cultures, and methods. Definitely a place to visit if you're going through to the mountains to learn about the terrain around Lassen, Shasta, or Tehama county in general.

The Mineral Museum is SPECTACULAR, be sure to go behind the curtain and wonder at all the rocks that phosphorescence (glow-in-the-dark, see pic) . . . Highly Recommended!
