I never thought to review this store before, but after seeing so many negative comments, I decided to share my experience. The kitchen food they sell are excellent—I’ve never had any issues with their food or produce. While the owner isn’t the friendliest or most welcoming, that doesn’t really matter to me since he does his job well. That being said, everyone else in the shop is friendly, smiles, and is very welcoming. One time, I accidentally bought an extra bottle of Ching’s hot sauce and wanted to return it. Even though I mistakenly brought a Safeway receipt instead of the right one, the owner still accepted the return, which I appreciated. My only real complaint was that they didn’t accept Apple Pay before, so I always had to carry a credit card. However, they’ve since upgraded their payment system.

I recently had a disappointing experience at India Cash & Carry in foster city that I feel compelled to share. On March 15, 2025, I purchased a box of tea bags, I was with my kid so I rushed & grab few things only to discover upon returning home that the tea bag item was expired—specifically, it had a sell-by date of January 15, 2025.
Realizing the mistake, I promptly returned to the store on March 17,2025 with my receipt, expecting a straightforward return process. However, what followed was incredibly frustrating. The girl accused me of trying to return an "old item," despite the clear evidence of my recent purchase. I told her to check their cameras that I bought it from their store & that aisle I picked up that package just 2 days ago. It was disheartening to be treated with suspicion when I had done nothing wrong.
To make matters worse, the owners daughter assumed I didn't understand her language and began talking to her mother on the phone about my return, using rude remarks that were clearly directed at me. This was not only unprofessional but also disrespectful, making me feel uncomfortable & unwelcome in their store.
Adding to the absurdity, the cashier who sold me the item questioned where I had obtained the expired tea bags, as if I was hoarding the tea bags at home and waiting for it to expire so I can return the item. I found this particularly offensive, as it implied that I was somehow at fault for their oversight.
They refused to take back the expired item and offered no apology for the oversight. Due to customers waiting in line. The girl felt pressured & used rude language & took the item from me & exchange it for some other item . Instead of acknowledging the mistake of selling expired products which I noticed on other reviews after today’s experience , they chose to accuse the customer. This experience was not just disappointing; it was downright shameful.
I would strongly advise anyone considering shopping at India Cash & Carry to think twice. There are plenty of other grocery stores that value their customers and maintain proper inventory standards. I certainly won't be returning to this store & highly recommend don’t shop here. The shop owners think they can do whatever they want & treat people badly & sell expired stuff knowing no action will be taken by anyone. This is why the owner & his kids are so rude, arrogant & mean. Attaching the receipts to show when I bought it 3/15/25 & when I went back 3/17/25 to return/ exchange for some other item at the store.

This is my go-to Indian grocery store! I've been to the big chains in Sunnyvale, and this has everything you need and more. The staff is really friendly, the store hours are very convenient, and the fresh food is delicious. Once I had accidentally overpaid in cash and they were kind and honest enough to track me down to give me the extra money back. They also have a WhatsApp group to keep track of menu and sales within the store. The best overall grocery store.

I am unable to reply to the store response. During my visit, I was not rude or disrespectful. However, I raised my voice when I overheard you speaking in your language with your mother, making comments about me . I think, It is my fault that I came to your store & did not check the date on one of the Tea Bags I bought. I don’t expect any accountability based on the other reviews I am seeing now. Your store is known for not taking responsibility and putting the blame on the customers. How conveniently now you have camera footage of me but when I told you to check the camera that I bought it from you & I picked from the aisle along with one another different brand tea bag just a 1.5 day ago. You did not wanted to listen. As I mentioned earlier in person, I bought two different brands of tea bags and was returning one because it had expired. I was shocked to find that, despite having the receipt and the item being completely untouched or unopened. You accused me and why do I care you don’t have that batch number in stock. It is not my problem that you don’t keep eye on your inventory. In the camera footage on Saturday you can clearly see I picked that item from your store & you scanned it.
First of all. You were not taking the item back. However, you eventually agreed to accept the return after other customers were observing the situation. My advise to future customer please double check the dates on the product otherwise you will face this kind of harassment from the store people even if you have a valid receipt and the item was in an unused condition and you are returning the item after 1.5day. Anyhow, I've reached a point where I need to focus my energy on positive experiences rather than dealing with stores like yours, which take no accountability and are well-known for poor customer service on platforms like Yelp and Google. I wish you the best, but I can no longer support a business with such practices.*

Good prepared food! Tons of options. I enjoyed chana masala and shahi paneer, with rice. Tables are out front, so you can eat it immediately.

I appreciate the fresh food and roti options they have. The grocery selection is also good when you need something in a hurry. Do not mind the cash rule, it is stated clearly. Never bought any vegetables though.

Ok for quick purchase. I generally avoid this store because the service here is poor & cranky staff. Supplies are ok depends on day of the week. Nothing stands out. I'd rather go to India Grocery near Whole Foods than here.

I used to be a regular customer here, but unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. My husband ordered "aloo mutter soya," but the elderly man at the counter seemed to have trouble hearing and didn’t pay attention to our request. Instead, he began serving ā€œaloo cabbage mutter.ā€ When we pointed out the mistake, he didn’t seem to care and continued filling the container with the wrong item.
I later approached the staff to ask if they could correct the order or offer a replacement. The two boys, both quite defensive and rude, refused to acknowledge their mistake and insisted that they couldn’t make any changes. While I understand that some places don’t take food back, I was hoping for a more reasonable solution, like a refund or simply giving us the food we asked for.
Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience, and the staff seemed more interested in arguing than offering decent customer service. It’s a shame because a little attention to detail and basic courtesy could have turned this into a positive interaction.

Response to owner:
What records? The records are in your mind. The receipt only say ICC kitchen hot food. Orders are verbal, no record of nothing lol. And offered to change it? Liars. All you did was call the ā€œold manā€ and discuss it on call with him so you could get him to start bullying us into leaving. He clearly doesn’t know how to deal with customers or have any shame to talk to people arrogantly.
